4/25/09

Much like Mother Nature, the Matawan turned up the heat this weekend at the Lion Invitational. The Huskies won the team competition and posted several winners and season bests. It was a great day of preparation for the athletes, it gave them a taste of both the weather and competition that they will see over the next several weeks as the team begins the championship segment of our season. The highlight of the meet for Matawan was Kyle Robinson who won both the 110 meter hurdles, with a time of 14.3 seconds, and the long jump, with a distance of 22 feet 2 inches. For his efforts, Kyle was awarded the Performer of the Meet. Kyle also placed 5th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.30 seconds and jumped 5'10" in the High Jump.

The Huskies also saw contributions from other athletes. In the 100 meter dash finals, Kyle Hardy and Jared Allison ran 11.12 and 11.25 respectively. In the finals of the 110 meter Hurdles, Robinson was joined by teammate Jon Smith who clocked a time of 15.7 seconds. Also placing in the 400 was senior Will Alston who ran 53.0 seconds. Freshmen Solomon Simpkins ran 53.4 seconds to win the Freshmen 400 meter dash.

In the 800 meter run, junior Greg McCormack ran a season best 2:04 seconds. He was accompanied by junior Omar Emera who also posted a breakthrough performance of 2:10 seconds. This was a solid 6 second personal best for Omar who has only been competing since March in this sport. In the 3200 meter run, Senior Sean Donohue posted a time of 9:50 seconds to place 4th in the event. This was a 14 second personal best for Donohue who is continuing to have a great season. Also running season bests in the event for Matawan included juniors Evan Norwood (10:46) and Dhaval Shah(10:55). Sophomore Mike Harris also posted a personal best in the event with a time of 11:22.
